On Saturday, Bookwell Travel donated 50,000 meals to Savannah’s Feed the Hungry as part of its national meal donation campaign.
Ahead of the donation, Bookwell Travel founder Brian Gates ran for 12 hours. He started at the Savannah Marriott a little after midnight. He arrived in Garden City right when the donation started.
Gates said his goal was to raise awareness of the 12 hours of hunger families face when food support is no longer available.
Gates said, “We’re grassrooting this. Everybody. We’re all in it together. Bookwell Travel together is feeding the less fortunate. There’s been a lot of people during this pandemic who’ve been less fortunate. They had good jobs, but now have no food.”
By the end of the year, the trip and planning platform plans to donate 16 million meals to organizations fighting food insecurity.
